Marie’s Paradigm

Look after your mom
Dad’s last words to me
I can only imagine
How disappointed he’d be
Never enough time
We’d both agree
… I never really followed through

The occasional visit
Every holiday
She never seemed to mind
But, that was her way
Bringing thoughtful gifts
Cards that would say
… I love you

She brought me into the world
Gave me my name
Instilled her faith
Without bias or shame
Now that she’s gone
It’ll never be the same … oh mom, I’ll miss you

There were no misconceptions
No rosy glasses
The world according to Oz
A distrust of the masses
Memories of bread made from scratch
Cookies with molasses

The tea on the stove
Became weaker with time
Traveling the world through books
One hill left to climb
An unwavering will
Marie’s paradigm

She brought me into the world
Gave me my name
Instilled her faith
Without bias or shame
Now that she’s gone
It’ll never be the same … oh mom, I’ll miss you

May she find peace
Reunited with her past
God please offer your hand
Because she’ll never ask

Now that she’s gone
No, things will never be the same … oh mom, I wish you well

Marie Jean Blakely

February 13, 1937 – February 23, 2018

It was with great sadness and a heavy heart that I announced the death of my mother, Marie Jean Blakely. Mom died peacefully as we stood by her side after a short battle with Pancreatic cancer.

Born in Miramichi New Brunswick, Marie moved to St. Catharines Ontario in 1966. She was the daughter of the late Norman and Florence (Swain) Trevors, and predeceased by other members of the Trevors family that include her brothers Calvin, Charles, Norman, Donnie, and sister Norma; who sadly passed away just ten days before my mother did.

Marie was the loving wife of the late Clarence Blakely; predeceased by her sons Joseph and Clarence Jr, as well as her grandson (and my son) Ryan. Beloved mother of Debbie, Gail (Richard), Donnie (Jane), David, and Paul (Donna). Grandmother to Theresa, Bryan, Tausha, Curtis, Kayla, Colin, Brittany, Jeremy, Joshua, Cameron, Lucas, and Noah. Great Grandmother to Hailey, Domenic, Eli, Christian, Jordyn, Ethan, Gabriel, Chloe, Gracyn, Fraser, Blake, and Brielle. Special friend to Michelle Harrison and Marilyn Blakely

I wrote about my mother in a previous post if you’re interested in knowing more about the woman that was such a huge influence in my life… she will be greatly missed.
