Damaged

Down at Spencer Park
A perfect Saturday
Country and Blues festival
The last band began to play

A hundred conversations
As the band began to sing
All I was thinking
Why aren’t they listening?

Approached by a beautiful woman
Said she knew a better place to go
I smiled and said “thank you”
“I’m just here to see the show”

She said to think it over
“Really, no thank you ma’am”
It was at that moment I realized
Just how damaged I am

As the band poured out their hearts
I listened to every word
Couldn’t help but feel a little sad
At some of the stories I heard

It all sounded so familiar
A few rights that had gone wrong
The band sang out their final words
“I’ve been lost since you’ve been gone”

Approached by the same woman
She said her name was Sue
I smiled and shook her tiny hand
Said “how do you do”

She asked if I thought it over
“Really, no thank you ma’am”
It was at that moment she realized
Just how damaged I am

It’s not that I feel lost without her
It’s not that I feel pain
It’s really that I don’t feel at all
And can’t seem to love again

I tell myself to trust in fate
But the timing seems so slow
The night I was approached… by a beautiful woman
And chose to watch the show

…. And realized
Just how damaged I am
