Kersel’s Yard

Through a field
Across the tracks
Surrounded by fencing
We’d slip through the cracks

Kersel’s yard
Full of vines and fruit trees
Outside a pond
Where we could do as we please
A place to hang out
And just feel the breeze

At night we’d sit and talk
This place overlooking the city
The glow of the lights
Man it was pretty
And we’d wonder
…. What is our destiny?

Sometimes we’d get brave
Try to steal Kersel’s fruit
He’d yell at us
Then start to shoot

No time to think
It’s the pepper gun
Our only defense
Was how fast we could run
… Too slow and you won’t sit for a week

At night we’d sit and talk
This place overlooking the city
The glow of the lights
Man it was pretty
And we’d wonder
…. What is our destiny?

A pond full of life
Frogs and dragonflies
Once so magical
Until its demise
Now covered by homes
It brings tears to my eyes

The old hang out’s gone
Friends never stayed in touch
Kersel’s gone too
Never thought I’d miss him so much
…. I still wonder
Did others reach their destiny?
Do they ever think of me?

That brought back a lot of fun memories Donnie! Beautiful song and lyrics and it also made me laugh . I remember Junior and I running like a bat out of hell after Mr.Kersel’s big spot light came on. Junior ripping his jacket jumping over the fence so he wouldn’t get shot in the butt! You could actually write a book on his life on how he always made us laugh so hard,we couldn’t catch our breath! He was one of the very few that could could turn a terrible situations into one of the funniest, in his quick and witty ways that we all loved……We miss you and Ryan this week Junior! We know that you are both together… make sure you tell Ryan of all the crazy things you did and he’ll have a great laugh, if he’s not already!! Love and miss you guys!
