Beneath The Surface

Met her at a little pub
Turned out to be a short night
We spoke for a few hours
She was cute and seemed alright

Lunch by the lake
Went for a long walk
Shared a bottle of wine
She was content to just sit and talk

Then I looked beneath the surface
This diamond in the rough
As I began to know her
I couldn’t get enough
…. I looked beneath the surface
…. Now I can’t get enough

Smiles as she listens
Her eyes fixed as I ramble on
Occasionally adds a thought or two
At times we talk ‘til dawn

Shares stories that’ll make you laugh
…. Make you cry
Always careful to hide her tears
Believes life, like a first impression
…. Can offer more than it appears

I looked beneath the surface
Found a diamond in the rough
The more I get to know her
I just can’t get enough
…. So much beneath the surface
…. Now I can’t get enough

I was searching for so long
Must have been in all the wrong places
Oh… so many nights
Oh… so many faces

She ventured deep inside
Made it seem so easy
Most don’t dare to go there
Afraid of what they’d see

It hardly seems fair to her
I found passion…. sincere beauty
When she looked beneath the surface
….. All she found was me
